Anglesea Beach House
Anglesea. Victoria, 2013
With a practical brief to re-invigorate an ageing fibro clad beach shack with a ‘back to basic living ethos’ of low maintenance and environmental sensitivity/sensibility. There was an emphasis on maximising natural light and cross ventilation whilst retaining all existing native vegetation, and limiting site disruption. The design intent revolved around the retention of as much of the existing building footprint and structure as possible, recycling existing materials (entry door is recycled shack floor bearers) and limiting site excavation to avoid damaging existing tree root zones. Utilising the Murcutt concept of ‘touching the earth lightly’ the majority of the new works were cantilevered from one new footing. The large spans and cantilever give a solid building a feeling of lightness, and allow views from the street to continue through the property and into the landscape beyond. The ground floor footprint of the existing shack was retained completely. The cladding was required to be low maintenance and is was also desired that the material palette weathered over time to allow the building to blend in with the eroding landscape of the Great Ocean Road coast line. Cor-ten (rusted steel) compliments the oxidising cliff faces, and spotted gum cladding to weather grey overtime to blend in with the local vegetation.
Grow Your Wealth
Townsville, 2013
An existing 2-storey house has received substantial transformations to the facade and interior. A crucial design consideration has been to create a new appearance using standard/efficient construction materials and methods. Throughout the design phase 9point9 explored numerous facade options (building form, proportions, materials, lighting and colour) to create a modern, iconic workplace for the client. The double layer facade protects the building from heat gain particularly in the afternoon. This is the first project in a cyclonic region to use Lysaght Kliplok 700HS as a wall cladding and we are extremely happy with the result – it provides a clean, sleek finish with no visible fixings.
Castle Hill House
Townsville, 2014
9point9 Architects have completed a luxurious master bedroom suite in Castle Hill, North Queensland. This project required meticulous attention to detail to produce an elegant, timeless aesthetic. Careful consideration with planning allows for large glass sliding doors in the bathroom and bedroom to open up and embrace the panoramic views across the City and Magnetic Island; while maintaining privacy. High quality finishes and fittings have been used throughout. Thanks to the builder and interior designers for their collaboration and hard work to turn our ideas into reality.
