Projects:
The Strand Redevelopment
Townsville, 1998
TSA, with landscape architect Wal Smith, were fortunate to be offered the opportunity by the Townsville City Council to design the new Strand precinct in 1998. As local consultants this was an opportunity to not only showcase our design skills but to contribute in a very tangible and positive way to our own community
Pure Magnetic
Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island, 2005
The brief called for a cluster of ten two-bedroom dwellings on a tight beachfront site. The resultant design includes six pacific island style bures and two two-storey structures at the rear, positioned on the site to allow sea glimpses and privacy despite the high density. Extensive use of timber detail, integrated and intense landscaping and high level of fit-out ensure a luxurious tropical environment for visitors.
Townsville Grammar School New Middle School
North Ward, Townsville, 2003
The brief was to achieve an 18 classroom precinct, including an external covered area capable of holding a Middle School assembly. The overarching design consideration was the provision of a secure environment / ‘precinct’, for physically smaller pre-teenage primary level children in a situation where late secondary students dominate. The conceptual framework was based around: making a recognizable ‘home’ environment for middle schoolers, but accessible for flexible use to others; maximizing opportunities for games and quiet activity by small groups external to the building; maximizing the use of natural ventilation; developing a palette of low maintenance materials, that respects recent developments on campus (primarily the gymnasium); and to inform future redevelopment; making the landscaping of equal status to that of the building. The Precinct has exceeded the expectations of our Client.
