Cloudbreak

Mosman, 2008

This substantial five level, four bedroom home was conceived as a series of three interlinked pavilions, terracing down a wedge shaped, north facing waterfront site overlooking Middle Harbour. The upper level master bedroom suite is splayed to due north to capitalise on the panorama view up Middle Harbour. The middle level comprising the main living / dining / kitchen and media rooms open out to extensive decks and the central courtyard. Two other bedrooms and study on the lowest level extend out to the garden and pool. The building has a solid sandstone faced base integrated in with the extensive landscaping whilst the upper levels are clad in stained timber battening to reduce the overall bulk and scale and create the open and light feeling of a Balinese boutique hotel. The lavish but understated interior finishes reinforce the unique timeless design and create a warm and comfortable feeling. Finishes include recycled Blackbutt timber floors, travertine floor and wall tiles, solid Blackwood timber joinery and Rosso Levanti and Emparador marble bench tops. This is a truly unique house that takes maximum advantage of an outstanding site and will certainly withstand the test of time.

Esther Road Apartments

Balmoral, 2007

In a prominent corner position only 100 metres from Balmoral Beach, this contemporary styled, duplex apartment building has been designed to capture a casual beachside feel whilst incorporating luxury finishes throughout. The upper level 3 bedroom apartment, designed for the developer and his family, opens out to a large rear garden deck and heated wet-edge pool. The lower apartment with a similar high level of finish was designed for resale. In accordance with the practice’s design philosophy there is an strong emphasis on maximising spacious internal proportions that seamlessly adjoin expansive outdoor deck and terrace areas. Given the building occupies a relatively narrow site, a cleverly placed central garden courtyard captures the northern aspect and allows natural light and ambience into the core of the building. The duplex is well integrated into the surrounding context and along with the carefully designed landscaped gardens, created a highly successful beachside apartment development.

Lucas Warehouse

Camperdown, 2009

This project involved the conversion of a large empty warehouse into a floristry workshop and a luxury residence to accommodate a couple and their 3 teenagers and their collection of racing cars. The design of the warehouse revolves around a newly created courtyard that brings sunlight and natural ventilation into the primary living areas and to all the bedrooms. Large bifold doors to the courtyard enable the living areas to be opened up whilst maintaining absolute privacy and security. ESD features to the warehouse includer rainwater tank, photovoltaic panels and solar hot water. The courtyard can also be closed off with remote controlled retractable awnings to provide climate control.
