Caroline Springs Civic Centre

Caroline Springs, Victoria, 2007

Caroline Springs Civic Centre includes the Library and Stadium. The interior architecture for the Caroline Springs Library was inspired by the local geological features of the area, from which the Organ Pipes National Park derives its name. These distinctive columnar basalt formations are reflected in many interior design elements with the building, which was developed in association with Alex Hotchin. The design employed a clear and logical plan that accommodates large volumes of people moving through the library. Additionally, the need for passive ventilation, night-purging through operable windows, and designing the building for maximum solar penetration with minimal solar gain were also important drivers of the planning. Caroline Springs Stadium is a multi-purpose facility, providing opportunity for access and supporting a range of Community Activities and use. Two existing and two planned schools will be major users of the stadium. The facility primarily caters as an active recreation space for the broader Melton East Community. One court has been configured as a multi-purpose hall suitable for both sporting activities and wider community user (eg. public meetings, schools concerts/ drama presentations, speech nights etc).
