Hall Bowra Architects
Hall Bowra Architects is a Sydney based architectural practice founded by Jamie Hall and Liz Bowra in 2012. We focus on residential, commercial and industrial projects across NSW. We foster a collaborative approach to design and construction; cultivating strong working relationships with our clients and consultant team, which allows us to tailor solutions to the individual constraints of each project. We have experience with many councils across NSW and would be very happy to discuss your project requirements.

Hall Bowra Architects were commissioned by two friends to convert their small and dark two bedroom single storey terrace into a light-filled three bedroom terrace with masses if storage. The original front part of the dwelling was retained and preserved, and the ageing masonry lean-to was dismantled. Split-level floors were arranged around an open stair to amplify and expose each internal space to a void filled with daylight, and an unexpected sense of space. A centrally located light well directs light and ventilation to two bedrooms, and both bathrooms, while lower-level louvres funnel fresh air into the laundry and storage spaces below ground. Joinery rather than internal walls demarcate internal spaces allowing, where possible a horizontal extension of space. Our client saw an opportunity to invest his skills and a year of his life to building the extension himself and with his son, so it was important that the design could be simply pieced together on a budget with minimal trades and wastage of materials.
