Harbison Care

Burradoo, Bowral, 2011

Winner of limited design competition. Residential Aged Care with 67 single rooms with en-suites arranged in four wings with centralised dining rooms and staffing. High quality personal space for residents combined with high staff efficiency and low energy costs. Typical single resident room with en-suite bathroom for privacy and dignity. All bedrooms oriented to north east or north west for sun. Bedrooms sized to enable mobility aids including shower trolleys obviating the need for a common bathroom with its attendant staffing. Dining Rooms with domestic serveries arranged around a central enclosed satellite kitchen. The dining rooms are a more manageable size, scale and quietness for the residents whilst retaining the staff efficiencies of one large dining hall. Different Rooms enable flexibility in catering for Residents of differing needs. The Dining Rooms are separate from the circulation corridors, or for special functions can be opened up to create larger spaces.
