Harbourside
Townsville, 2009
The new $93 million Harbourside residential and hotel building, comprising 140 serviced hotel apartments and 22 upmarket private residences, features cutting-edge architectural design that will revitalise the city’s iconic Palmer Street. The building will stand apart with an innovative exterior designed to reflect its waterside surroundings. The exterior will feature clean, modern lines with an ocean-themed colour scheme using white, dark charcoal and blues to accentuate architectural elements. The focus of the design was to position the building in such a way that it would maximize vistas over the water and out to the islands, allowing hotel guests and residents to fully appreciate their surroundings. As such, most apartments have large balconies which provide views from both bedroom and living areas, so people can take in the view, enjoy indoor/outdoor living as well as good lighting and cross-ventilation. A range of balustrades define sections of the building and create a point of difference between the resort and residential levels in the upper section of the building.
