Robert has lived and worked in Sydney, Singapore, Vietnam, London & Italy, which has enabled him to work on diverse projects and within different cultures. The Perth office was established in 2000. He has a particular interest in hand-crafted, environmentally responsible, community-orientated design. This includes working with the climate, lay of the land, context and the history of the location. Projects are robustly designed and spaces conceived for the long term, allowing flexibility in use and avoiding wasteful re-building. The studio seeks to design projects that are part of a given neighbourhood or region, adding and relating specifically to the social and cultural history.
