Northern Beaches Renovation
Allambie Hts, 2012
This project is a true collaboration between client + architect: From the very first dining table discussions over initial scribbles, the clients were actively involved in design decisions from overall site planning, to detailed resolution of joinery & internal finishes. The design focuses on the provision of refined, crisp, loose-fit living spaces with the capacity to adapt to the family’s changing needs. It also reflects their strong desire to live on the ‘verandah’, alongside a love of natural day lighting & connection with bushland adjacent. The material palette complements the colour + grain of this bushland: natural finished timber floors + wall cladding, paint colours in bush grey/green shades with occasional flashes of autumn colour, metal finishes chosen to slowly weather and settle into their place. The home includes a series of small surprises: reclaimed timber reinvented as bedroom wall cladding, a beautiful bush vista framed within a contemporary upholstered bay window, & clear glazed shower roofs connecting the user to the night sky. The house also celebrates high-quality design + craftsmanship, including a beautifully crafted internal stair, joinery, polished concrete benchtops, hand-laid stone garden walls. The result is a unique home with a strong sense of place along an urban/bushland fringe, infused with the personality of the owners throughout.
Khazzoum
Hills District, 2011
Bennett Murada Architects’ role on this project as interior architects included refinement of space planning, interior design / detail resolution including design of joinery and lighting, and selection of all fixtures and fittings. Our brief was to create high quality, generous, refined interiors in an elegant, top-end home created as a speculative development. In a speculative project such as this, the challenge is to create refined and beautiful spaces and volumes as a base over which the eventual owners can overlay their personality, and within which they can easily imagine themselves living. The palette of materials was conceived as an extension of the exterior of the building; the warmth and grain of natural materials including stone and timber being paramount in the creation of a crisp, contemporary, comfortable and warm interior. Nothing about this house is generic. From mirrored joinery kickboards designed to allow joinery to float above the floor, to hand cut coursing lines in the fireplace stone work every detail is considered, tested and executed to the highest standard; a truly unique project delivered without compromise.
