Projects:
Purcell
Foxground, 2009
This project, set in the south country of NSW, involved the incorporation and refurbishment of an old piggery and the addition of a substantial new building. The driving force behind this design was the desire to preserve the character of the existing buildings and to restore the relationships between the collection of buildings on site while incorporating a substantial new building into the site. The key to the success of the project was to create links and reinforce the spatial relationships on the site. The new building achieved this integration by linking all of the disparate buildings wrapping around the existing cottage and farm building and weaving new courtyards to suit our human scale. These new spaces now act as outdoor rooms, where previously they were vast and unrelated.
Blenhiem Street House
Queens Park, 2004
The Blenhiem Street House involved alterations and additions to an existing dwelling in Queens Park, NSW. Our approach to the project was to introduce light to the sheltered space. We optimized opening sizes and positions to catch natural light, warming the home at desired times of the day. The existing building’s narrow footprint was recognized and celebrated informing transformable spaces throughout the dwelling. Opening up living spaces to the exterior blurs the threshold between inside and out. The courtyard pool transforms into a usable space with the movement of natural timber decking. The design embodies elements of light, colour and space to create a spacious welcoming environment.
Diggers Retreat
Mackerel Beach, 2008
Mackeral Beach Retreat is a building that embodies the feeling of coming back from the beach and having a relaxing afternoon. The outdoor room acts as an intermediary between the house and the landscape. The architecture plays with light, materiality and formality.
