Warrandyte, Victoria, 2005
276-278 Yarra Street, Warrandyte is a small, speculative duplex development which sets out to raise the bar in built-for-profit housing, in regard to environmental commitment & architectural quality. The project aims, by example, to contribute to the growing shift away from the traditional wasteful & non-sustainable practices in Australian housing, particularly evident in the area of speculative housing. The project aims to show that not only is it possible to make a buck through responsible housing, but that a well designed house containing environmentally sustainable features will actually attract a market premium which exceeds any additional cost expended on design, technology and enhanced construction practices. It short, the project set out to show that environmentally sustainability can equal economic sustainability and make a positive contribution to social sustainability.
