Condev Headquarters

Gold Coast, 2012

Located in the heart of the central Gold Coast this burgeoning construction and development company needed a street presence of its own, one which would tell the world about its goals, commitment to quality and excellence in the form of a new headquarters. The result is a building which contrasts high tech sharp edged material such as zinc & glass with recycled timbers. The fencing reinforces the form of the plants in the landscaping with the use of curved metal rods. Condevs commitment to sustainable design is further demonstrated by use of solar voltaic panels on the roof to supply green power, adjustable louvres to the sun prone facades and use of natural ventilation notably via vertical convection through the building.

Lake Orr Residential

Varsity Lakes, Queensland, 2011

Located at the end of Lake Orr, adjacent to bushland and close to Bond University the site is a very visible stop end to the vista down the lake. As such the local authority designated that the site should have a “feature building – one that establishes itself by way of unique form, articulation and elements that are not normal and considered as “stand-out” when compared to its surrounds or even similar types of buildings” The result is a building with a compound curved “fish hook” plan form that fans out across the lake maximising views & cross ventilation through the apartments. The strong curved form is visually strengthened by use of deep overhangs & use of light and dark colours. The angle of the sun further reinforces this by continuously varying shadows on the building according to the time of day.

Hyun Residence

Chandler, Brisbane, Queensland, 2011

Located in the Brisbane suburb of Chandler this 3 level house feeds off a 3 storey internal “street” with bridges linking the two sides of the house. Use of timber, plywood and stone throughout provide warmth and contrast against the harder edged materials such as glass and steel. A water feature cascades vertically through the space to the ground level internal pond and thence under the glass to the outside. A swimming pool and pool house form a natural extension of the theme out to the rear private outdoor garden.
