Fr. Rosenskjar Resource Centre
St Agnes Catholic Primary School, Mt Gravatt, 2010
The Fr. Rosenskjar Resource Centre embodies the ideals of creating an inspiring environment for learning/working by implementing an architectural framework that enhances transparency, accessibility and operational cohesion in the education realm. In order for the new building to emphasise the conceptual ideals while re-housing a variety of public and semi-public spaces (including the administration department, library, multi-media facilities and general learning areas) the project became an exercise in reinterpreting the school’s identity.
The Augustine’s Centre
St Augustine’s College, Springfield, 2010
The design strategy for the Augustine’s Centre focused on integrating a new signature building (housing a formal gathering/performance space) into an existing school masterplan. The building is strategically located along the central circulation spine of the school, which runs north to south through a grassed common, connecting the junior and senior schools. Its prominent location enables the building to act as a focal point in the landscape, visible from all vantage points. The building is identified by its uplifting form on a sloping site; the concave roof as a response to the convex roof of existing adjacent buildings. The floating roof structure and a lower canopy straddle the circulation spine creating a promenading zone, which frame views to the common from the multipurpose rooms/green rooms.
Currimundi Apartments
Currimundi, 2012
This boutique apartment building on the southern shore of Currimundi Lake evolved as a response to a unique brief for holiday accommodation centred on family gathering. The site was previously occupied by a dilapidated 70’s beach house, and the client wished to be able to accommodate their growing adult family. There is one unit per floor with communal facilities (entertainment area, laundry, accessible bathroom, outdoor shower and surfboard storage) and carparking located on the ground level. During peak occupation, the building can operate as one large ‘beach house’ or as several isolated units. The interior design and furniture selections respond to the beach house brief ‘ comfortable, hardwearing and relaxed. Built-in banquet benches and sofa beds provide extra sleep space, while the entertainment area can also be utilised for accommodation if required.
