architects north is a Townsville based architectural firm established in 2003 with a wide range of experience in projects throughout New South Wales, Queensland and South-East Asia. Building a reputation as one of the few design orientated practices in the region we have received many design and construction awards for our buildings. Our firm is determined to undertake a quality design based approach to its projects creating unique, custom based outcomes. The practice has developed a wide expertise and understanding of the regional climate and unique constraints of the tropics. Sturt Street Commercial Building
Townsville, 2008
Sturt street office building is a $6 million commercial project located on the fringe of Townsville CBD. The building design provides functional interiors set around a central double height volume. The projected entry conference room that is suspended above the building entry has a back lit polycarbonate skin facing busy Street. The building design promotes a strong and innovative corporate image that is set comfortably within its urban settings and its tropical location.

The Department of Child Safety new office building is a direct response to the design brief to create an attractive, functional and inviting office environment. The design provides approximately 1000m2 of new office space, a large secure car park and landscaped outdoor recreational area. Southpark Terraces
Townsville, 2009
Southpark Terraces is a low rise residential development on the fringe of Townsville’s CBD. The total of nine terrace apartments was developed in two separate buildings. The shared courtyard contains concealed common services and parking. The design language is simple, climatically responsive and repetitive, creating an instant sense of familiarity. This approach defined the project from its outset allowing for ease of construction, end user affordability and therefore the sense of social responsibility historically associated with South Townsville. The future energy requirements, in particular the use of air-conditioning – are minimal due to achieved high level on natural ventilation (use of louvers, high level openings) and low glare levels (use of screening to outdoor areas). Solar hot water has been provided while rainwater harvesting tanks are used as party walls to the garden areas.
