Projects:
Temple Christian College
Paralowie, South Australia, 2013
An inspiring project involving the master planning, design and development of a new two storey facility at Temple Christian College comprising a Performing Arts Centre including Recital Hall, Music Suite, Dance Studio, Music Laboratories, Recording Studio, Practice Rooms, Change Rooms, General Learning Areas, Staff Room, Offices and a covered Verandah on each level. All of which maximised the use of space on a tight, constricted site for a growing school. Holistic design solutions were provided with responsible material selections, smart design solutions and whole-of-life cost effectiveness with ESD principles implemented at the most practical level. The Client is delighted with the outcome, finding the new spaces inspiring, giving the rooms a sense of energy and vitality and creating an exciting and stimulating learning environment.
Dutch Aged Care, Rembrandt Court
Oaklands Park, South Australia, 2014
We recognise that sensitive, informed design is a critical component to the success of a facility. Hodgkison is proud to have provided the architectural, project management and interior design services for this project, successfully integrating the existing and new building with an open common room space and cafe for residents and their families. 31 new rooms were delivered with shared dining and lounge facilities on each level of the residential wing and the commercial kitchen refurbishment and upgrade of the main reception and administration area. External courtyards and balcony provide additional amenity for residents to be able to sit outside and large bay windows fill rooms with natural light. Constructing the new building within a fully operational facility was a challenge that was overcome with meticulous planning and coordination. A wonderful example of partnership between client, consultants and the construction team.
AHL Student Boarding Facility
Wadeye, Port Keats, Northern Territory, 2012
A logistically challenging project involving the design and development of a new student boarding facility in the remote community of Wadeye, Port Keats. Facilities include administration, dining, lounge, tutorial areas, bedrooms and amenities to accommodate 40 students, service areas, a swimming pool as well as a Manager’s Residence and four Youth Worker accommodation units. Design decisions were driven by a strong need for building materials and finishes with an inherent suitability to the surrounding environment. Low maintenance materials were specifically chosen to assist in the reduction of the running costs of the facility. Connection to the land is integral in the indigenous culture and the architecture responds well by providing ample covered outdoor areas including deep verandahs and covered links thereby allowing for meandering between indoor spaces via protected externally links as opposed to one air-conditioned building mass. This project received two awards at the 2013 NT Architecture Awards: AIA NT Commendation for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing and The Colorbond Commendation for Steel Architecture
