Fraser Paxton started paracticing in 2009, having worked previously on larger commercial projects around the world. This experience in skyscraper design is not lost on his diverse skill set as an architect, and teacher of architecture and design. Fraser Paxton Architects, is a design oriented practice operating out of Melbourne, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. As one of many good Melbourne architects, Fraser is constntly striving for better environments for everyday people, whether it be the design of public space, private houses, large apartment blocks, interior fitouts and modular and affordable housing.

Point Lonsdale, 2014
Twisted 14 degrees to capture the view, this house posed it’s challenges to a young enthusiastic and ambitious builder. We think he did a great job. Set in a sleepy hollow of Point Lonsdale, the family beach house needed some love. The twist provides the ground floor to remain oriented to the garden, and the top looks out over wetland. A simple concept, executed beautifully. The timber cladding on the twist, contrasts against the western red cedar of the re clad original house. The end result is a happy client, who thankfully believed and trusted in us to provide something magnificent.

How do you make a south facing house full of light and air? By splitting the roof was the answer. It is a sedate south elevation to look at, but the roof on each house is split in 3, varying each time in pitch by 5 degrees. This was achieved by splitting the roof plan into 3 sections, and rotating each by 5 degrees along the boundary wall to achieve a gredation in height through the center. This allows excellent natural light, and operable high level windows allow the houses to ventilate well without the need for air conditioning. The end result was a happy client with a beautiful light filled house.

Seldom does a client say go nuts, make it great. Ben Petitt i s one of those rare individuals who believes in good design, and we thank him for it. The brief for this project was to create a space for the staff to be able to write on the walls. Naturally, we chose glass, and lots of it. We mixed green, blue, one way mirror, bronze and clear glass into a cacophany of visual splendor reflected by the mirror wall surrounding the recording studio we designed. The piece de resistance is Ben’s office though. Trees suspended from the ceiling transform into chandeliers and a green wall installed personally by Fraser to finish it off.
