Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre
Epping, VIC, 2012
Engaging with community requires genuine consultation, solutions that realise value for money, customised design outcomes, and the flexibility to respond to future needs. The Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre resulted from an extensive community engagement facilitated by the Hornery Institute and the board of the CFLLC. Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre is located in Aurora, Vic Urban’s new 6 star residential development. Encompassing adult education, community arts and training, this project is not just a community hub but is also a demonstration project showcasing sustainable building practices. Working with RMIT Centre for Design, this project achieved a rating equivalent of 7.2 stars. The building section is a simple skillion roof, folded back and forth to create the zig-zag plan, reinforcing the street edge to the south, becoming a building in the park as it extends into the site towards the north. Three wings contain particular functions which can be isolated; however the folded returns form overlaps and intersections, supporting complex interactions between users and functions. Creeds Farm LLC won the Best Commercial Exterior in the 2011 Intergrain Timber Vision Awards and also received a Commendation in the Sustainability category at the 2012 Victorian Architecture Awards.
