Moorings Resort

Port Vila, Vanautu, 2007

Located on under utilised and overgrown waterfront land on Port Vila’s harbour, Arkitektika was commissioned to redevelop the property, retaining the existing restaurant and nightclub businesses, to create a tropical resort. The location presented the opportunity of sunset views across the water and through the harbours enclosing headlands, as well as using the underutilised and degraded foreshore. Through the masterplan of the resort, Arkitektka was able to achieve all of the commercial imperatives of the project while also adding extra value by releasing spaces to be used by all visitors to relax and enjoy the tropical location while overlooking the scenic harbour.

H Residence

Mermaid Beach, 2009

Privacy with open plan living on a small beachside lot. This contemporary residence achieved the clients desires for privacy, open planning, roof top entertaining including pool, along with spatial manipulation through voids and large expanses of glass looking into low maintenance tropical gardens and water features. The highly private client sought a residence that was full of natural light and open, while wanting a very private residence. While private, it was also desired to capitalise on the beachside location with opportunities to gain ocean views from the upper level at both the front and rear of the residence. The conflicting requirements were resolved with a strong street precense featuring highly articulated masonry, with the rear and one side of the residence being primarily open to the private landscaped rear tropical garden and water features. Featuring Australia’s largest domestic pool window, the rooftop pool provides private areas for entertaining and relaxing while enjoying the panoramic ocean views. Articulation of the building forms, and manipulation of internal volumes and voids leads from the entry into the main living areas of the residence and connects to the upper levels, creating a sense of space and privacy, while filling the house with natural light.

Elder Entrance Townhouses

Burleigh Heads, 2007

Arkitektika was commissioned to redevelop a small constrained corner allotment with a creative multi-residential infill solution. As a commercial development, Arkitektika achieved economical construction techniques with a contemporary design that maximised the opportunities of the site, resulting in a viable project. Located at the corner of the Lower Gold Coast Highway and Elder Entrance, Burleigh Heads, this site faced major constraints including dual frontages, density, slope on the site, and proximity to the highway, as well as the more common constraints of site cover, access, and building setback that severely restricted the opportunity to redevelop the land. Arkitektika developed a floor plan permitting flexibility with dual living areas and the opportunity for separation of home office spaces and secondary living areas with outdoor recreation from the elevated living and sleeping areas. Arkitektika brought value to this project through creative design that was economical in structure and space, and successfully negotiating a design solution with the authorities that satisfied all of the town planning constraints and achieved relaxations for site coverage and setbacks to achieve this multi-award winning project.
