Newington Sesquicentenary Project

Newington College Stanmore Sydney, 2013

Newington College’s Sesquicentenary Project responded to the College’s brief to create an inspirational symbol of learning & knowledge for Newington’s future in a sensitive heritage environment at the centre of the College’s Stanmore Campus with a close visual relationship with the original Thomas Rowe Founders Building. The new building is a visually transparent and interactive centrepiece to the campus and incorporates a variety of sustainability measures including a thermally efficient spill air ventilated twin wall facade, integrated solar tracking louvres, stormwater retention & grey water re-use, solar boosted hot water and occupant sensitive lighting & air conditioning systems. The completed building has been embraced by the College community and the gentle reflections of the Founders building in the transparent faces of the Sesquicentenary centre are a symbol of the integration of Newington’s proud history with its vibrant current & future educational programme.

Macquarie University MUSE project

Macquarie University Sydney, 2014

The Macquarie University Spatial Experience and the central Student Connect area is an innovative reuse of the lower floors of the original Library Building to provide student social learning areas and student services in a student oriented model. BNMH were the co-ordinating architects for the overall project & we designed the central circulation & entry areas and the Student Connect Facility which is an innovative blend of architecture that integrates an interactive portable device interface with coloured columns & LED lighting for orientation & a user friendly approach to the delivery of student support services in a hands on & personal manner. The total project is a cost efficient use with a medium term projected life that commenced as an experiment in student led spaces and has now become a popular and heavily used student area central to the campus.
