Goldfields House

Clunes, VIC, 2009

Situated in the rolling plains of the Victorian Goldfields, this original house has been left in ruin from the bushfires of 1977 to perish. Our clients loved the mystic of living in a ruin and hence a major challenge of this project was how to maintain this spirit whilst transforming it into a new house to facilitate a modern lifestyle. The resulting design floats a new roof above the old walls, a slither of glass separates the two so the roof effectively hovers over the old walls, hence the uneven contour of the top of the wall can be experienced from both inside and out. The new rear extension is essentially two triangular roof plains skewed to each other as if blown across the plains like leafs and the modern minimalist interior reflects the simple beauty of the masonry walls of the ruin.

St Francis of Assissi Primary School

Tarneit, VIC, 2012

This new school on a greenfield site in Melbourne west was completed in Jan 2012. Embracing the pedagogy of 21st Century learning, the interior planning seeks to achieve maximum flexibility and adaptability for a variety of learning styles and situations whilst still creating zones for students to identify as their home space. Mobile furniture is an integral component of this approach and a focus on colour as a generator of function and rhythm to the central special projects ‘learning street’. Designed & constructed in a relatively tight time frame, this project was completed on time and on budget.

Flying Horse

Warnambool, VIC, 2008

Situated at the new gateway to the town, this hotel/brewery incorporates a variety of functions for both the local patron and visitor/tourist including fireplace lounge, sports bar, function rooms, casual bar and caf’ lounge. The external expression of layers and scales derives from the jagged coastline and the internal finishes of natural materials and warm colours reflect the sandstone topography which is so much a part of this region.
