Coleman Architects Pty Ltd was established in 2009 by Ian Coleman, formerly a director of McDonald Coleman Architects Pty Ltd and its predecessor, Paul McDonald & Associates Pty Ltd. We provide architectural and heritage consultancy services to private, public and institutional clients, from small residential additions to commercial and institutional projects worth several million dollars. We undertake projects throughout metro Melbourne and regional Victoria. We provide our clients with creative solutions for new buildings, adapt heritage buildings for new roles, advise on specialist conservation works, and undertake heritage assessments and conservation plans to manage future development.

Former Mechanics Institute Hall

The Gisborne Mechanics Institute precinct is a thriving hub of activity, supporting the diverse needs of the local community whilst catering to a variety of community groups. The Built in the late 1800s, the Hall is iconic in the history of Gisborne, having hosted many principal community events. Works by Coleman Architects included design and development of the historic hall, a new storeroom and kitchenette to complement the original Heritage fabric of the building.

The McGrath Street project involved creative reuse of an early Victorian cottage in a state of disrepair. Works involved considerable repairs to the original heritage cottage, retaining and reinstating original features. A modest addition has been designed to the rear of the property, facilitating a relaxed contemporary dwelling that responds positively to the surrounding landscape. This project is currently under construction.
