Projects:
Blairgowrie Studio
Cooma, NSW, 2013
The site is an old tennis court surrounded by mature pine trees on a beautiful property at the foot of the Snowy Mountains. The client commissioned a simple modernist space in which to create and display large paintings with a separate storage area for both art work and a substantial library. The plan is informed by the grid of the tennis court, maintaining its memory, and incorporates a north-facing courtyard. The expanse of drystone wall uses granite from a local building that has been stored on site for many years. It is combined with steel-framed glazing and fair-faced blockwork for a spare, utilitarian aesthetic.
Terraced House
Erskineville, NSW, 2012
An unremarkable one-storey freestanding house set in a heritage area of Victorian terraces has been substantially re-furbished to include a second storey, loft space and a new garage. The extensions to the basic 1950’s brick house are clad in timber and glazed brick. Large new windows to the side and rear and an open-plan layout have created a modern urban haven that respects the local vernacular.
pool and Cabana
Clontarf, NSW, 2013
The rear section of a large, lush property in Clontarf has been transformed into a glistening haven of family fun and relaxation with the addition of a gleaming 9x4m pool and a cabana. Both structures have been designed to nestle into the stepped sandstone site, causing level changes that add visual interest. The cabana contains a gym, living area, bathroom and bbq deck and captures sun all day – it will be a centre of activity throughout the year.
