Brisbane, 2009
The property comprises an early 1940’s origin cavity brick bungalow, set on a 693m2 block, on the Brisbane River floodplain. The building has been subjected to flood inundation in the past, and as a result of the recent drought the brickwork in places was severley distressed. The initial challenge was to stabilize the structure without resorting to expensive underpinning. The stated requirements were to then create a comfortable, cool, light, open-plan, in-character home, with improved indoor/outdoor linkages and a substantial outdoor entertaining space. This was achieved by renovating the original dwelling, and adding a breezeway and master suite extension to the rear of the house.
