RAAA’s practice is based on rigorous, rational planning and intelligent design solutions. Our current projects range from single storey houses to a forty storey tower, from apartment buildings to an aged care village. Every project is a journey, often a long journey, and we work hard to make it an interesting, exciting, expanding experience for our clients and for us. We are adept at drawing all the disparate force on a project, council, building codes, site constraints, client aims and budget, into a design solution that not only works but delivers something challenging and innovative.

Connaisseur Apartments

Bellevue Hill, 2008

Connaisseur Apartments is a boutique residential development in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The design was developed to maximise the benefits of a steep north facing slope. Three generous residences with secure car parking and common entry unfold over 5 levels. Each home enjoys excellent aspect , views and privacy. The building’s external finishes are robust and simple stone masonry, off-form concrete, rendered masonry and timber screens work to create a clean but luxurious appearance.

Castlecrag House

Castlecrag, 2013

The Castlecrag House that adds an open plan living area and renovates the existing house. The design is effectively a garden room that opens completely to the sun to the north and to the swimming pool to the west. The roof is a concrete planter bed with native landscaping. The mass of the concrete roof and the cantilevered cedar shade screens offset the environmental challenges of having such large areas of north and west facing glazing to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.

Beach Palace Hotel

Coogee, 2014

This project is for the conversion of the Beach Palace Hotel in Coogee into a smaller bar and three levels of luxury apartments. We worked with the owner, the neighbours and Randwick Council to get a DA approved. The hotel has since been sold. The design slices a void through the existing massive floor plate to allow sun to penetrate deep into the building and make it suitable for residential purposes. The rhythm of the existing heritage facade is picked up in the two new levels and horizontal louvres filter the top edge of the building to reduce the scale.
