after exploring options of double and single storey extensions, a singled storey was adopted with a well crafted simple rear extension to this period home in Hawthorn. The open plan living areas create a welcome space at the rear of the house overlooking the park and external deck, opening up the once small kitchen and creating a generous 3 bedroom family home from this once cramped 2 storey house.

the project consisted of a 2 storey rear extension on a narrow terrace site in Abbotsford close to the train line. the rear of the existing house was demolished and replaced with a new open plan kitchen, living and dining area as well as an intergrated central courtyard with a gallery space and rear bathroom, the new master bedroom suite upstairs consisted of the master bedroom, ensuite, built in robes into the existing roof space and retreat study room with deck overlooking the city.
