Located in Elvina Bay, Sydney, Day Bukh Architects is an award winning architectural practice specialising in environmentally sustainable design with a public, urban and residential design focus. Our ecological concerns extend beyond reducing energy use to social sustainability. This involves designing buildings that last by using environmentally friendly materials that withstand the harsh Australian environment, and also designing buildings that can be adapted for reuse, thus ensuring longevity. Located in Toronto, on the foreshore of Lake Macquarie, this project for the Lake Macquarie Council included a new amenities buildings including a combined kiosk, storage building and toilet, change and shower facilities. The project also involved an associated paved terrace plaza area for seating, a timber boardwalk along the foreshore edge and new access from the boardwalk to the lake swimming baths.

Ryde Park Pavilion and Passive Recreation Area
Ryde Park, Ryde, 2009
The project involved the provision of a new recreation area, accompanying café and water feature that created a new hub of activity and contributed to the adjacent rotunda precinct whilst providing an important addition to the existing amenities of Ryde Park . It transformed the Park by expanding the informal recreation, play and social opportunities to cater for a wider and changing demographic in sync with the Park’s focus as a major civic space.

Sustainable House Annandale
Annandale NSW, 2014
For the Sustainable House Annandale, the intention was to achieve the best possible passive solar house for the site, whilst facilitating a more sustainable lifestyle for the client. The design not only maximises its passive design strategies including: solar design; evaporative cooling; natural ventilation; and insulation, but it also employs a number of active strategies ‘ LED lighting; energy and water saving devices; rainwater collection ‘ as well as sustainably sourced and renewable building materials. In addition to the construction of the dwelling, the design also sought to increase the density of the site, through the addition of a granny flat at the rear of the property. This increased density and ‘shared living’ encourages a sharing of the site, resources and amenities ‘ creating awareness of the potential of shared resources.
