Mosman Apartments 2 – “Escarpa”
Mosman – Balmoral Slopes, NSW, 2009
Located on Balmoral slopes, this high-end apartment development was to be pitched at ‘empty-nesters’. In response to this brief, each apartment affords the benefits of a detached house; separate entries, garden areas and outdoor spaces which relate directly to each level, privacy, and natural light and cross ventilation to each room; whilst maintaining the benefits of down sizing. Cross vistas throughout each apartment enhance the sense of space and livability beyond the expectations of a moderate sized apartment. Bantry Bay House

A family of four required improved views over Long Bay, Beauty Point together with better connection with an existing tennis court which acted as the primary play area for the two young children. Two pavilions rest atop a stone base which contains the bedrooms. The living room focuses views to capitalise on the full depth of the available view up middle cove whilst also opening up to the Long Bay views. Internal Living spaces merge with the internal courtyard, the viewing terrace and the tennis court. An expansive lawn spreads out from the lower level bedrooms inviting use of the previously under-utilised sections of the site and ensures that all rooms have a level exit to the garden spaces.
The Stair House
Paddington, NSW, 2007
The existing terrace had little natural light, constricted circulation, and room layouts which related to an earlier era. Much of a 4 storey terrace is about vertical circulation. The project addressed these two constraints by inserting an ornamental stair that opens up the centre of the terrace to natural light, allows space for good sized rooms on the northern side, and provides opportunities for art display. The combination of stair detailing and voids allows one’s eye to trace about the space like a composed painting. The breezeway was internalised to give better light and space to the ground floor kitchen and family areas. A garden with a feature wall to a storage space beyond was added to the existing courtyard.
