Heiden-Point Lonsdale

Point Lonsdale, 2011

Arising out of a desire for an increase in space requirements, the design reflects quality and sustainability in every detail. The use of warm, natural materials were chosen to provide a relaxed and inviting interior, while the exterior styling emphasised a strong connection with the ground and its relationship with the spaces between the building envelope. Showcasing sustainable design elements, the design incorporates numerous passive and active energy saving features. Contemporary in its approach and execution, the home responds to and embraces the natural environment at every opportunity. Adopting similar principles inside, the living spaces – including bedrooms – are all located to the northern side of the building. The ground floor of the northern facade is completely glazed from floor to ceiling which allows natural light to permeate through the home and opens up the entire northern side of the home to the garden and outdoor entertainment areas. The use of honest, local and recycled materials complements the building’s sense of place in the context of the local area. The house was designed with passion for quality, aesthetics, functionality and its response to and relationship with the environment in which it is placed.

Luna Park, Cafe & Function Centre

St Kilda, Melbourne VIC, 2015

Baenziger Coles was engaged to design a new caf’ and function facility within the grounds of the iconic Luna Park on the St Kilda foreshore. The new building showcases a three level building to cater for an increased demand for a variety of food and beverage options within the Park. The design was informed by the historic, yet vibrant nature of the park and its context within the developing St.Kilda foreshore precinct. Working with a globally renown local artist, the development of the oversized and unique three dimensional characters have become synonomous with the naming of the building ‘House of Carnivale’. A new entry has been created from Cavell Street and the views from the rooftop terrace and out to Port Phillip Bay are exhilarating.

Sovereign Hill Cafe

Melbourne, 2010

Set within a sensitive historical precinct at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, the design of the cafe presented a challenge for all stakeholders on various levels. The resulting contemporary architectural and environmentally sustainable response to the built and natural landscape has provided a functional and welcoming food and beverage venue which can cater for up to one hundred and fifty seated patrons in a variety of defined spaces. The interior spaces have an integral interface with external seating areas which will be supported with the embellishment of surrounding landscape features. The building sits humbly in the backdrop to the historical buildings surrounding and has been embraced by all involved in the design and building process.
