Projects:
Yallingup House
Millbrook Estate, Yallingup WA, 2012
Located on a spectacularly beautiful sloping site in the Millbrook Estate, Yallingup, this project is adjacent to the historic Millbrook Farm and close to Lamont’s Winery. It has sweeping views across a rolling rural landscape with the ocean in the distance to the north-west. Sprinkled with grass trees, the block has tall stands of remnant eucalypt forest to the east and west, as well as a seasonal creek. A strong contemporary design draws inspiration from the colours and materials of the landscape and the nearby historic buildings. The owners wanted a solid and permanent looking structure with a relaxed open plan layout that maximised views and provided for simple practical utility. This spacious luxury home will be used for family holidays and short-stay holiday rental.
Trigg House
Trigg WA, 2004
Located about 300 metres east of Trigg Point, one of Perth’s most popular surf spots, the superb elevated site enjoys panoramic views of the Indian Ocean to the north, west and south as well as natural coastal bushland and distant city glimpses. The 10 metre fall from rear to front of the block necessitated some serious design work.We devised a four level scheme which comprises a three level element at the front and a two level element at the rear linked with a single level kitchen/family area. The plan wraps itself around a generous pool and courtyard.
Mount Pleasant House
Mount Pleasant WA, 1999
The brief was for an open plan contemporary family home with a relaxed ‘holiday’ feel so we came up with a light, airy split-level design which fitted beautifully into the natural contours of the sloping site. The undercroft double garage and carport were tucked under the bedroom wing to free up open space and allow the bedrooms to take advantage of lake and hill views. A clever skillion roof design affords the interior spaces soaring volumes and skillfully placed high light windows that visually ‘bring in’ the beautiful surroundings giving the home a special ambience. Careful placement of openings extends the perception of space to encompass the boundaries of the site and help to make the home feel much larger than it really is. Bold use of form, materials and colours have given this home plenty of ‘wow factor’ although it remains extremely livable and user friendly for family life.
