Joblink Plus Training Centre

The Esther Halliday Training Centre, Peel Street, Tamworth is a successful adaptive reuse of an existing concrete and masonry warehouse structure. The client, Joblink Plus, a not-for-profit employment and training agency, purchased the dilapidated structure to accommodate training facilities as well as office accommodation for their expanding range of courses and services. Environmental issues were fundamental to the Brief: Sustainability features incorporated include energy efficient lighting, use of skylighting and glazing to introduce natural lighting, solar hot water, solar power generation and sensor controlled air conditioning that maximises the utilisation of fresh air , together with on site water storage for the flushing of toilets and irrigation of landscaping. The site had dual street facades, allowing for two different entrances located at different levels. The Peel Street entrance serves General office accommodation on the ground floor and allows a secondary access via stairs and a lift to the Training Centre, which is located on the upper floor. The Byrnes Avenue frontage is served by a large parking area and presents as the main entry for the Training Centre.
Tamworth Eye Centre

The Tamworth Eye Centre was constructed to meet the needs of a busy Ophthalmology practice located ion the edge of the Central Business District of the regional centre of Tamworth. The Brief required that the building had flexibility and the potential for expansion. A challenge of the design was to address the local council’s directive that car parking is to be located at the front of the site while maintaining a visually appealing and inviting street facade. Constructed to a relatively modest budget approximately $ 2200.00 per square metre, including siteworks, landscaping and fit-out, the structure successfully integrates into the streetscape of generally single storey commercial and health facilities.
Howle Residence
Tamworth, NSW, 2010
The Howle Residence is a a family residence constructed in Tamworth in 2007. Constructed on a 4000 square metre rural residential allotment, the house utilises passive solar design principles including a verandah and terrace with an operable”vergola” roof to the rear facing northern facade and high south facing clerestory windows that can be opened to release heat in the summer while sealing shut in the winter. Materials include the use of bagged brickwork externally, thermal mass walls located in the core and colorbond steel roofing.
