Seven17 Bourke Street
Docklands, VIC, 2010
717 Bourke Street is located at the corner of Bourke Street and Wurundjeri Way, linking Southern Cross Station, CBD to Docklands. The building marks the intersection of two different urban grids, expressing them in its bold and strong architecture. The new mixed use development combines A-Grade office space, retail, car parking and a 290 room hotel in a simple architectural concept. The office tower has a design rating of 5 stars Green Stars and 4.5 stars ABGR. The strong architecture expresses its very simple concepts creating varied spaces at different levels of the property, from the Ground floor to the Level 4 Podium. The pedestrian bridge, designed as if the corner of the building has been pinched and pulled across Wurundjeri Way, reinforces the links to the CBD and offers to the community a secure, landscaped and weather-sensitive thoroughfare to Docklands. Retail activated laneways, created through the property, expand the best of what Melbourne has to offer. The iconic nature of the final form contributes to the Docklands precinct by providing a landmark that has already created a strong sense of appropriation by the community to a part of Melbourne long-neglected.
198 Berkeley Street
Melbourne, VIC, 2009
Opening in February 2009, 198 Berkeley Street is the latest addition to the University Square Precinct of the University of Melbourne. Designed as a landmark structure, the building is rated 5 stars under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Education Pilot Tool. This project represents the first educational building of this scale (over 20,000m’) to achieve a 5-Star rating and represents a significant milestone in the development of Green Buildings in Australia. Purpose designed to house the School of Economics and Commerce, the centrepiece of the 14 level combined academic and teaching facility is a 400 seat lecture theatre. Provision has also been made for a variety of teaching environments including seminar rooms, computer laboratories, and tiered lecture theatres together with associated ancillary facilities for the University’s largest school based population. The upper levels house the academic staff together with the schools administrative hub, the majority of which enjoy light filled offices with unimpeded views toward the CBD and surrounding areas.
Nine Entertainment Co
Docklands, VIC, 2010
The Nine Entertainment Co project is a 10,000m’ fitout in the new 717Bourke building at Docklands. Nine Entertainment Co (formerly PBL Media) is the parent company of GTV9 Television, ACP Magazines, NineMSN and Ticketek. This project involved relocating the groups from various locations into a combined facility. METIER3 was given the responsibility to design the new tenancy which included studios, control rooms, edit suites, workplace zones, meeting facilities, breakout zones and back of house areas. The design intention was to take the different aspects of each business unit and combine them to create a uniform working environment which represents the Nine Entertainment Co as a whole.
