Oikos Architects
OIKOS Architects specializes in designing new housing projects, alterations to existing houses and small commercial scaled projects within the inner city which often require particular design, conservation and negotiation skills. The design approach is to produce buildings as “dwellings” for clients to fully inhabit, which respect client needs, urban, heritage and landscape context as well as being appropriate solutions economically and ecologically sustainable to the community as a whole.

Projects:
Cabarita House
Cabarita, 2013
A large three level house built on a good size site with a Northerly aspect…….. a perfect site. The house comprises four bedrooms and a separate guest area, two studies and a media room, pool and parking for three cars. The challenge with any residential project is how to make the house relate to the location and context and also to make a place that owners completely take into their life. In short to fully dwell within and complement their life and growth of the family. We could talk a lot about this house and what we tried to do.
Russell Lea House
Russell lea, 2007
A new house built at the rear of an existing house and subdivided as a dual occupancy development. The new house faces Iron Cove with good elevated views toward the water. The lot presented a challenge with a triangular shaped front boundary alignment. The front of the house expressed this shape of the site with a long projecting front balcony almost like a ship’s bow reaching out to the bay.
Balmain House
Balmain, 2014
A double fronted semi-detached house with a listing as an item of heritage significance because of the nature of the row of 6 pairs. The retained front part of the house provided the basic starting point to build in effect a new house at the rear. The house provided an additional three bedroom as well as the master bedroom in the roof space of the original house. Oikos Architects prepared the Conservation Management Plan and the Heritage Impact Statement to accompany the Development Application.
