Schurmann Residence

Maude, 2007

The design of this new home for an undulating country site on 2.5 acres reflects the rolling hills of its surroundings in its curved roof profile and in the use of natural materials. The many internal and external niches created by the home offers both northern access to every livable room in the house as well as capturing the vast country views. Respect to nature and the environment is found in the location of four decks in each orientation and in the carefull placement of doubleglazed windows and overhangs. Internal masonry walls surround the slow combustion heater to provide thermal mass storage. A contempory country home with flexible indoor / outdoor relationships
